Robert Lee Deters, 66, of Battle
Creek, went home to be with his Lord on May 14, 2007 in Winston-Salem, North
Carolina from accidental injuries.
He was born on July 12, 1940 in Fremont, to Daniel and
June (Frens) Deters. He graduated from Fremont High School
in 1958, then joined the US Air Force where he
served his country proudly for 20 years, retiring in January 1980. He married
Ruth LaNore Cumings on Sept. 13, 1960 in Montgomery, Alabama.
He spent 21 years working at Oaklawn
Hospital in Marshall, before retiring in December 2005.
After retirement, he spent most of his time in Mocksville, North Carolina
enjoying the warm southern sunshine.
He is survived by
his wife, LaNore; six children, Renee Potter of Battle Creek, Terry Deters of
Ishpeming, Timmothy (Patty) Deters of Claremont, North Carolina, Tony (Mely)
Deters of Mocksville, North Carolina, Jason Deters of Mocksville, North
Carolina, and Roxanne (Craig) Artis of Battle Creek; five brothers, Lewis
(Edith), Richard (Janet), Daniel (Carol), Andrew (Judy), and Steve (Joan);
and two sisters, Marilynn (Byron) Sharp and Sherry (Chuck) Russell all of
Michigan. He was also blessed
with 24 grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; a daughter, Roxanne LaNore DeLaCruz Deters; and a
son-in-law, Andrew Potter.
A memorial service will be
held on June 16 at 2 p.m. at the Grace
Baptist Church,
located at 500 Cosmopolitan in Marshall,
with Pastor Richard Doran officiating. Interment will be
made at Fort
Custer National
Cemetery, with full
Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the family
to assist in funeral expenses.

He served
20 years in the US Air Force as a medic retiring February 1980 at Chanute
AFB, Rantoul, Ill. He also served as an orthopedic
technician at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall,
Mich. for 24 years, retiring
Dec. 31, 2005. He regularly visited the Farmington Senior
Center.
Surviving:
his wife, Ruth Cumings Deters; 4 sons, Terrance Deters of Michigan, Timothy
(Patricia) Deters, Anthony (Mely) Deters and Jason Deters, all of North
Carolina; 2 daughters, Renee Potter and Roxanne (Craig) Artis, all of
Michigan; 24 grandchildren; 5 brothers and 2 sisters, all of Michigan.
A
memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 18
at Yadkin Valley Baptist
Church with the Rev.
Ronnie Craddock officiating. The family will receive friends following
the service.
