Community
Fremont Public Schools is located in the town of Fremont, MI. Fremont offers a rural atmosphere, while still being in close proximity to metropolitan areas. Fremont is within a one-half hour drive of Muskegon, a one-hour drive of Grand Rapids, and a one and one-half hour drive of Lansing, Michigan’s state capitol.
The City of Fremont is a full-service community, providing police and fire protection, water, sanitary and storm sewer systems, as well as refuse and recycling programs.
Fremont also offers exemplary health care services. Gerber Memorial Health Services (GMHS) is the largest area health care provider, offering an 83-bed hospital and health care system. GMHS offers hospital, diagnostic, outpatient, rehabilitation, occupational health, and educational services, as well as visiting medical specialists and a center for mental health. Currently undergoing a $10.9 million expansion, GMHS will soon be able to offer even more health care services.
Recreation & Enrichment
Fremont’s five city parks offer a variety of recreation opportunities, including swimming, boating, camping, volleyball, playground equipment, a multi-purpose court for basketball, hockey, and skating, as well as a skateboard park. Also available are over 100 acres of woodlands—great for biking, hiking, or just enjoying nature’s beauty.
The city and surrounding townships are also working to add over 30 miles of non-motorized pathways, which will connect area schools, parks, and other points of interest.
Fremont offers many cultural opportunities, as well. The Dogwood Center for Performing Arts, completed in 2002, features a 400-seat main theater. The center offers the opportunity for both national and local talent to perform.
The state-of-the-art Fremont Area District Library also provides enrichment opportunities. Renovations totaling $5.5 million were completed in January 2000.
Business & Industry
Fremont is home to many businesses and industries, including Gerber Products, the world’s largest baby food company. Over 280 area business and civic-minded organizations call Fremont home.
