SPRING 2006

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TESTS

If you are planning to attend a four-year college/university after you graduate from F.H.S., you will need to take a college admissions test. The most commonly used and accepted test in Michigan is the ACT.  Many out-of-state schools require the SAT.  It is your responsibility to find out which test is required at the school of your choice.  (This information is available in the C. O. or on the college websites.)  Registration materials for both tests are available in the Counseling Office.

Since the majority of our students take the ACT, we will focus on that here.  (Questions about the SAT will be answered on an as-needed basis.)  The ACT will be given at the Newaygo County Education Service Center in Fremont on June 10, 2006.  Registration packets must be mailed by May 5.  The basic fee of $29.00 (no Writing) or $43 (ACT Plus Writing) includes sending test results to 4 colleges.

The ACT Plus Writing started last winter.  We recommend that all Juniors sign up for the writing portion of the ACT.  Only a few schools require it, however, if you decide later on that you want to add the writing portion you must take the whole test again.  There is no way to take only the writing portion.

ACT/SAT TEST PREPARATION SEMINARS: Muskegon Community College

MCC is offering a workshop for students planning to take the ACT college entrance exam.  These workshops are designed to increase a student?s confidence through training in a variety of test taking strategies.  Test directions, test scoring and sample problems in each subject area will be covered.  The cost for each workshop is $29.00.
