BOARD OF EDUCATION
REGULAR MEETING
March 27, 2017

The Regular Board meeting of the Fremont Board of Education was called to order by President Ed Wosinski at 7:06 p.m.

Present: Ed Wosinski, Terri Blake, Rick St. Peter, Matt Hendrie, Jen Scott, Crystal Calkins, and Kevin Kaastra.

Ed Wosinski, President, led the Pledge of Allegiance. 

People that addressed the Board: Ken Haggart (Superintendent), Bing Hanson (Director of Finance), Jennifer Schropp (teacher from Daisy Brook Elementary School), Daisy Brook and Fremont High School students and Scott Sherman (Fremont High School Principal).

Approval of Agenda

# 6290 - Motion by Terri and seconded by Rick to approve the agenda.

Public Participation

Recognitions/Presentations

• Jennifer Schropp (teacher from Daisy Brook Elementary School) and five students presented on the Salmon DNR classroom program at Daisy Brook; being 1 of 35 classes chosen this year to participate in this program. This is a renewable annual program. Schropp’s class also participated in the National Quilt project on salmon and trout along with 49 other schools across the nation. Each student created a fabric quilt block to exchange (25 exchanged in total) with other schools. 
• Fremont High School students presented on the Early College program. Students explained the program (currently 18 students participating from Newaygo County) partnering Newaygo County Regional Service Association (NCRESA), Muskegon Community College (MCC) and Fremont Public Schools (FPS).

Board Communications/Discussion

1. Sinking Fund – Ken discussed with the Board sinking fund promotions and meetings. He introduced Mark Tarquini, one of the administrators for the WWSD committee. Ken stated the next Sinking Fund meeting is scheduled for the following day, Tuesday, March 28. He also stated future presentations planned for upcoming township meetings. 
2. PESG - Ken discussed with the Board the non-renewal of the substitute contract with PESG. He stated new county-wide contract will be with EduStaff beginning 2017-18 school year.
3. Lifetime PE – Ken discussed with the Board the incident last week resulting with the current suspension of PE activities at that location. Discussed the need for electronic sweeping wands.
4. Superintendent Goals – Ken presented on Superintendent goals, the Eidex program and discussed curriculum with the Board.

6. Graduation - Scott Sherman (Principal of Fremont High School) presented on high school graduation rankings.
